Brandee Price
Originally, I wanted to become a pediatrician after watching my childhood best friend suffer from cystic fibrosis. It wasn’t until I studied genetics in college that I found my true calling and learned that researchers could cure genetic diseases. I fell hard for Punnett squares. In fact, during my senior year of college, I did not have on campus housing so I crashed on the floor of Chalinda’s dorm room and had to climb through the window to avoid the RA just so I could collect virgin Drosophila and finish the Genetics lab. After college, I got my PhD from Baylor College of Medicine and studied various gene therapy mechanisms. The timing was perfect because precision medicine was really beginning to emerge especially in cancer and I continued my training at MD Anderson before moving into clinical research.
I’ve moved through various disease states and have always used genetics and genomics as my guiding light to improve patient outcomes. I have experience in hereditary rare diseases and somatic solid tumors. I enjoy connecting with external researchers to use the power of genomics to accelerate their projects. In my free time when I’m not running Mom Uber, I enjoy reading policiacas in Spanish, traveling, and quilting.
I joined Healthy to democratize genomics and patient reported outcomes data and extend access to more researchers. Citizen science is also rapidly emerging and enabling many people without formal training to make significant impacts in our understanding of us and our environments. Big data requires bigger collaborations and Healthy will lead us there and motivate us to live our best self.
